Jane Yolen, known as the Hans Christian Andersen of America, has delighted readers of all ages since her first book, Pirates in Petticoats, was published in 1963. Fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and picture books — Jane Yolen writes it all. Jane and I go way back in that way only authors and readers can: her Sister Light, Sister Dark informed and strengthened one of my longest-lasting friendships, and since then I have spent many a fine hour curled up in a chair or leaning against a tree, immersed in the words and worlds of this beloved author. It was therefore a terrific pleasure and privilege to have been offered the opportunity to create this handbound book of her faerie poems.

Berrien C. Henderson returns to Papaveria with more of his Southern Arthuriana — in this mini-collection of two poems, a short story, and a novelette, characters from Arthurian legend roam unstuck and amnesiac. Henderson pairs rural lyrics with magical realism; his unique style is both piquant and poignant. We walk the dirt roads hand in hand with myth and majesty not often found in our own world. Meet Art with his gun stuck in the pawnshop, his friend C.V. troubled by black dogs and Art himself by a white snake, and Old Man Fisher, stubborn as the hills, and Eva, the witch of the waters. Follow them down old country paths and watch as they work the magic of the deep South.

Sit a spell.

See how it plays out…

Inside you’ll find

Old Language
A Matter of Anachronisms, Archetypal yet Curious in Their Implications
Secret Tongues of an Old Dirt Road
Folk Unstuck and Haunted by Creatures Parlous Strange

along with forewords, afterwords, and acknowledgements. As an artist/publisher, this is exactly the kind of text I like to work with — an interstitial melding of magical poetry and prose on a subject dear to my heart. As a reader, this is the kind of unusual little book I love, so it should come as no surprise that I am overjoyed to add this title to Papaveria’s catalogue.

The Glastonbury Tarot Deluxe Edition

The Glastonbury Tarot

This edition of The Glastonbury Tarot by author and artist Lisa Tenzin-Dolma was limited to a strict 50 copies. It came with a square of silk, a handmade booklet which has been numbered and signed by the artist/author, and is enclosed in a hand carved wooden box. No more of this edition of the deck will ever be produced.

First released by Gothic Image Publishers in Europe and by Weiser in the US and Canada in 1999, the cards and book have long been out of print — until now. With original art and text by Lisa Tenzin-Dolma, the deck focuses on the history and mythology of Glastonbury. Lisa’s striking images are ripe with colour and emotive resonance, and the deck has been well-loved by many throughout the years, with copies now selling for hundreds of pounds online. For the deluxe edition, the cards have been given a new look, both front and back, and Lisa has written a new guide to using the cards.
